Kalyani (தமிழ்: கல்யாணி) is a 1952 TamilDrama film directed by Acharya (T. G. Raghavacharya) and M. Mastan. The film is produced by T. R. Sundaram under Modern Theatres.[1][2] The film portrays the life of a mentally-deranged man and is heavily inspired by 1948 AmericanClassic film The Snake Pit. It was later re-made into a Telugu film under the title Atthainti Kaapuram in 1952.[1][3]Kalyani stars M. N. Nambiar.[4]B. S. Saroja, D. Balasubramaniam, M. G. Chakrapani and T. P. Muthulakshmi had supporting roles.[5][6]

Plot[edit]

M. N. Nambiar[7] is the main protagonist of the film and struggles with mental problems. M.N. Nambiar gets married to a young woman who is portrayed by B. S. Saroja. The plot revolves around their relationship and the series of problems faced by the female lead. B.S. Sorja eventually succeeds in curing her husband's mental illness.

Production[edit]

Critic, the Randor Guy, stated in an article says, 'Sadly during the making of the movie, a charge took ill with Tuberculosis, which was considered a serious illness at the time.' Talented cinematographer and the filmmaker Mohammed Mastan, who had been behind the camera up until this point, took over production of the film and completed it to the satisfaction of T. R. Sundaram and T. G. Raghavacharya (Acharya).[1] Choreography was handled by A. K. Chopra, K. R. Kumar, K. K. Sinha, and Dhandapani.[8]Dirt devil kone m0213 manualidades.

Soundtrack[edit]

The music was composed by S. Dakshinamoorthi and G. Ramanathan[9] with lyrics written by Kannadasan.[8]Playback singers were T. M. Soundar Rajan, P. Leela, A. P. Komala, K. Rani, U. R. Chandra, Jayashree, Gandhi, Jamna Rani.[8][10]

Reception[edit]

The film did not fare well at the box office. M. N. Nambiar was cast as one of the main leads in Jupiter Pictures Productions Kanjan in 1947. He starred again 5 years later in Kalyani by Sundaram. In spite of the impressive performance by Nambiar and Saroja, the movie was not a hit likely due to the subject matter, which was considered risque at the time.
